It’s Memorial Day. In America, it is said that we are the land of the free and the home of the brave. That’s absolutely true, However, it’s important to remember that we are the land of the free because of the brave. Memorial Day is meant for us to pay our respects to the men and women who laid down their lives for this great nation.
To Those Who Gave the Ultimate Sacrifice
A simple thank you is clearly not enough because you laid down your life for the rest of us…for your generation, for my generation, and for generations to come. We are eternally grateful for your sacrifice and we are humbled by your great love for this country.
To the Veterans Who Came Home First
Injury, illness, and suicide are all reasons why veterans lose their life after they come home. There are many service related illnesses and injuries that can eventually lead to death. Then, there’s PTSD, depression, and anxiety. A lot of the time, these are silent killers. We don’t always see signs that one of our veterans is struggling. Every day, 22 veterans take their own lives.
We are heartbroken for the suffering that made you see this as your only option. We are so grateful for your life. Our country is better for your service, but we’ve lost so much because of your death.
To the Families of the Fallen
You are not forgotten on this day, either. Your love and support of your soldier was an important component in their ability to bravely represent and defend our country. We love and thank you as well.
