Twas a Long, Dark Night

Both metaphorically and literally…because, you know, it was night. And nights are dark. Although we are in the part of the year where it doesn’t dark until 9 pm or so, it was still long. Fortunately, I spoke with J several times yesterday by text and phone as he traveled to basic. While I doubt he was particularly thrilled with a delayed flight, he did enjoy watching the sunset in Georgia.

He texted me to let me know he made it to his destination and was leaving the plane. He called me right before midnight to tell me he loved me and that he will write me and send me a mailing address since, obviously, they don’t get to keep their phones. I certainly appreciated hearing from him.

I fell asleep, briefly. I woke up around 3 am in a panic. That’s the first middle-of-the-night panic I’ve had in a couple of weeks. I’m telling you, fully giving up dairy was the best decision I’ve made in my 40 years.

So, I’ve been awake since then. It’s about 8:30 am and my pulse has just now come down enough for me to feel like I can catch my breath. There is no one reason that happens. It’s usually about 6,000 thoughts at once.

Definitely one of those days I am glad I work from home.
