So, one of my nieces doesn’t believe in dinosaurs.

Two of our nieces spent the night on Saturday. It was fun. We made bread. We attempted (keyword) cake balls. We attempted (keyword) caramel (stupid weather…). It rained all day on Sunday. We’re sitting around and watching Hulu and the younger of the two (she’s seven) sat next to me on the couch. She turned to me and said, “I don’t believe in dinosaurs.”

wat

I sat there for a second and Bull turned out and looked at her, too. I asked her why she didn’t believe in dinosaurs. Her answer was, “I just don’t.”

Uh, okay. So, Bull asked her about dinosaur bones in a museum.

“Yeah, they could fake those.”

Nervously, I asked, “Do you think the world is flat?”

She looked at me like I was a lunatic and said, “It’s round, of course.”

Oh, thank you yellow penguins of the universe.

We surmised that maybe she doesn’t believe in dinosaurs because, you know, she’s never seen one. She didn’t believe me about the t-rex / chicken link. She does believe in the previously existing dodo bird, sabertooth tiger, and wooly mammoth. Just. Not. Dinosaurs.

So, I told my 17 year old son about this conversation and what Bull and I reason is why she doesn’t believe in them. And he said without missing a beat, “Tell her I don’t believe in Australia.” You know, because he’s not laid eyes on the place with his own eyes.

Bull thought that maybe he should have explained to her that oil comes from dinosaur bones. I told him I didn’t think it would matter because I am not sure most seven year olds comprehend the idea of how oil is extracted and used.

So, yeah, that was part of our weekend. My Singer 500A sewing machine stopped working. I think I need to fix the timing on it, but I have a lot to do today so I’ll just keep hand sewing for a couple of days, I guess.
