If You Want to Be Successful, Change Your Decision Making Philosophy NOW

If there’s one thing I understand, it’s how your immediate situation can affect your decisions. Because I’ve been in some shitty situations. Beyond shitty. Life threatening. Some not so life threatening and yet seriously fucking worrisome “pay the electric or buy groceries” situations. So, believe me when I say that I totally understand how your current environment can (and often should) play (at least) a (small) part in how you make your decisions.

If you want to be successful, you  must change your decision making philosophy and you must do it now. You must begin to look at how your decisions don’t just affect your here and now. You must look at how they will affect your future – a week from now, a month from now, a year from now, or 10 years from now. Because that time will pass. And what stands between you and your success…is you. It’s your decisions.

That’s not to say that you should immediately quit the security of your job for the instability of self-employment (and it can be unstable for the first few years). It is to say that you should make decisions on how you use your current time and resources that you have after your day at work. You can build a business on the side. I know you can. I did it. I worked two jobs and built my business on the side (and I had kids, so spare me on how you don’t have time because you have a family).

You must stop making decisions based solely on your current environment, current comforts, current discomforts, and current mood. You must discipline (yes, I know that’s a dirty word for many people because it’s hard to develop and maintain discipline) yourself and put what you want for the future at the front of your thoughts.

Of course, doing this doesn’t mean your life will suddenly become super easy. Oh hell no. You’re still going to have problems. You’re still going to deal with bad days and bad moods. But, again, what you want in life is achievable if you are willing to exercise discipline and work even when you don’t feel like it…and rid yourself of limiting beliefs…and learn to change your thoughts (and I had to learn to do that, too).
